Our Projects

Past Glory

Following chronicle well highlights our past Glory, though the list is by no means complete:

  • The Matching Grant project of providing 10 nos. of Deep Tube Wells and 105 nos. of low cost sanitary latrines at two villages , Maloibari and Bonda situated about 40 kms. away from Guwahati city during the year 1986 – 87 .The total cost of the project was Rs.8.78 Lacs. Project Participants were Rotary International District 505, Canadian International Development Agency, The Rotary Foundation and Rotary Club of Gauhati South. Rotary International specially honoured PP Rtn Nikunja Bihari Barthakur in high appreciation for his exemplary service in their World Community Service Programme.
  • The Matching Grant Project (2004) of providing equipment for IOL operations at the Regional Institute of Opthalmology at Guwahati Medical College. The project cost was Rs.11.69 lacs and participants were Rotary Club of Anchorage Mid Town (Dist.5010) and American Association of Physicians from Assam and Rotary Club of Gauhati South. PDG Rtn Arvind Phukan ., Dist.5010 was primarily instrumental in co ordinating this Matching Grant arrangement.
  • Identification of several candidates who were eventually accepted for award of coveted Rotary International Scholarship for study of Peace and Conflict Resolution in prestigious institutions abroad.
  • Inclusion of more than 10 candidates selected by the Club in District GSE Teams over the years since its inception.
  • Installation of three Deep Tube Wells in villages – Pamohi, Dakhin Samota Arni Primary school and Robin Gaon , during the year 2011 12 ,with the funding support of Rotary Club of Tacoma # 8, WA, USA , Dist 5020 at the initiative of PDG Arvind Phukan , a member of RC Tacoma # 8. The total cost of these projects was Rs. 4.41 Lacs.
  • Rotary Clubs of Guwahati under our leadership have initiated a very effective awareness campaign on conservation of Deepor Beel Eco system. A seminar was organised with the participation of several experts of national repute on conservation of water bodies. Deepor Beel happens to be a very important water body and a notified Ramsar site (Ramsar sites are wetlands of international importance, designated under the Ramsar Convention ) ,critical to the eco system of greater Guwahati. Several followup actions since have lead us to believe the serious impact it has had on the people in governance. Ou Rotarian PP Dr. Anil Kumar Mahanta played a key lead role on this campaign.
